A Room with a View

June 30, 2012

Picturesque view from a Climb to Fight Breast Cancer tent at Lake Helen (10,400 ft). Photo by Dave Walsh.

This is a birds-eye view of the landscape Climb to Fight Breast Cancer participants ogle on Mt. Shasta (14,179 ft).  Climbers rest comfortably here at Lake Helen, the High Camp.

The Mt. Shasta expedition, lead by Shasta Mountain Guides, is spectacular. Climbers enjoy a leisurely hike on Day One to historic Horse Camp (7,950 ft) before ascending to Lake Helen (10,400 ft) on Day Two.  There is actually no water at Lake Helen. It is a flat platform resembling a perfectly formed lakebed. A prime perch for tents, socializing, and snow school.

Many thanks to climbers Dave Walsh and Monica Tracey for snapping this photo from their tent door. What a beautiful day to take in the mountains.
