Nearly fifty people came together on Saturday, February 25th to support the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer.  The event was dreamed up, organized and championed by mountain climbers Chris and Nikki Milonas. The wine tasting was held at Ward Johnson Winery, an urban family winery located at the foot of Seattle’s historic Queen Anne hill.  $5,000 was raised to propel life-saving research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Chris and Nikki will continue to fundraise until their Denali expedition begins on June 12, 2012. Denali, also known as Mt. McKinley, in Alaska, towers over the landscape at 20,320 feet and is the tallest peak in North America.

Editors Note:  I remember the day Chris Milonas asked me if I thought it was possible he and Nikki could exceed $25,000 in fundraising, in one year’s time. Five minutes with these two extraordinary individuals and you know they can truly conquer anything – whether it be bravery during Nikki’s breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery; the freezing temperatures of Denali; or the lofty goal of $25,000 in fundraising.  Month after month, the Milonas’s exceeded their donation goals. They’ve been tireless in their pursuit of support from local businesses and fearless when asked to relive Nikki’s survivor story over and over again.

This month, Chris and Nikki are well over $32,000, with no end in sight!  You can read more about them and their compelling lives on their personal web page.
